Sedona, AZ

1998

In the red sandstone country of Sedona, a Cast Earth house has been constructed. This is the first owner-builder project, in which the homeowner is acting as general contractor. The walls were built by Mountain Earth Technologies, under subcontract and using their Cast Earth license.

The 2,500 square foot home's exterior is insulated and stuccoed. Consequently, no effort has been expended on dressing the exterior finish of the Cast Earth. Interior Cast Earth surfaces will be left exposed to display the rich texture and color of the material. Because of the unfinished exterior and lack of interior lighting, early photograph do not adequately demonstrate the actual appearance but are presented here until improved images are obtained.

Interior Walls

Some interesting Cast Earth feature walls are used in various parts of the interior. These non bearing walls divide living areas and provide added architectural interest with their combination of shapes, colors and textures.
